Bloomfield Region

Bloomfield, 188kms north of Cairns on the coast of Weary Bay, is surrounded by World Heritage and Wet Tropics areas.

It is the perfect stop-over for visitors travelling to “The Tip”.

Bloomfield adjoins Daintree, Cedar Bay and Black Mountain National Parks and is the ideal spot for those who appreciate rainforest and wilderness beaches.

Art Classes

Black Cockatoo Gallery hosts art classes for artists young and old, new and experienced. The balcony is an inspiring place to work, bathed in sunshine and surrounded by rainforest.

Details

Based on traditional fine art skills, we teach the mediums of acrylic painting, watercolour and graphite pencil drawing.

We like to focus on wildlife and landscape but can accommodate a range of subject matter. From time to time we produce artworks for and by the community, most recently ‘Bloomfield Flora & Fauna’, a ceramic tiled mural permanently installed at Ayton library.

Postcards & Maps For Sale

The illustrated maps by Lainie Franzi are a wonderful souvenir of a visit to Bloomfield Valley, the Wet Tropics and Cape York Peninsula.

Events

Our Garden Parties are an event on the social calendar, hosted every few years. We entertain guests by bringing in Cairns Concert Orchestra and roaming audience participation dramatists. We serve scones, cream and my famous Lilly Pilly Jam and fundraise for wildlife rescue and rainforest rehabilitation.
